Laser Provides Relief for Psoriasis Patients
Do you have red, inflamed skin that is itchy or
painful? You may have psoriasis. Our practice is pleased to announce
the availability of laser treatments for psoriasis in both our Bethesda
and Germantown offices.
Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes itchy or sore
patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales. The patches usually develop
on the elbows, knees, scalp, back, face, palms or feet, but can show
up on other parts of the body. Psoriasis is the result of an overactive
immune system. In a process called cell turnover, skin cells that grow
deep in the skin rise to the surface. Normally this process takes about
a month; however, in people with psoriasis, it happens in just days because
the cells rise too fast.

Drs. Ehrlich, Lee and Yu have extensive experience in treating psoriasis
and we have acquired the latest XTRAC Excimer Laser which is highly
effective and suited for those tough to treat areas such as elbows,
knees and hands, and also areas stubborn to other therapies.
XTRAC laser treatment, which is covered by most medical
insurance, can be used alone or in combination with medication and other
treatments. Normally, the patient benefits from 2-3 treatments weekly
for a period of 4-6 weeks.
Laser therapy can be used in combination with systemic
therapy (prescription oral or injected drugs) as well as prescription
topical creams.
