SKIN CANCER, THE SUN AND YOU!

A Little Awareness Goes a Long Way towards Prevention.
Summer is in full swing and sun protection should be high on your priority list. It's time to put into practice how you will care for your skin over the long term. Skin cancer awareness and prevention is truly a year round issue and simple steps can be taken to prevent this protentially fatal disease.

SKIN CHECKS RECOMMENDED
The Dermatology & Clinical Skin Care Center recommends a monthly self-check of your body and a visit to us once a year for a “Well Skin Check”. If you have had skin cancer previously or have had significant exposure to the sun earlier in your life, then discuss with your doctor the best time frame for return visits, possibly even every six months.  You should schedule an appointment to have a thorough skin examination for skin cancer if you have any of the following:
  • New or changed growth
  • Family history of skin cancer
  • Personal history of skin cancer
  • History of blistering sunburns
  • History of exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun, tanning beds or sun lamps
  • Numerous moles
  • Large, asymmetrical, or unusual-looking moles
  • Fair skin
  • The tendency to burn and freckle rather than tan, or
  • Immunosuppressive medications

MOHS MICROGRAPHIC SURGERY
A Specialty at DermSkin

Mohs Micrographic Surgery is a state-of-the-art treatment for skin cancer which offers the highest potential for recovery - even if the skin cancer has been previously treated by another method and recurred. Mohs surgeons are able to precisely identify the tumor, remove it with minimal damage to the surrounding healthy tissue, and reconstruct the wound.
