CoolSculpting vs Liposuction

CoolSculpting and Liposuction are both proven treatments to slim and reshape specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image. But which treatment is right for you?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical, fat-freezing procedure that provides a more comfortable, non-invasive alternative to contouring the body. Liposuction (also known as Lipoplasty) is the surgical removal of excess fat. During a CoolSculpting procedure, a device is positioned on the area being treated and controlled cooling is applied. The treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), then die. Over time, the body naturally processes the fat and eliminates the dead fat cells. Liposuction requires a patient to be under anesthesia and a thin, straw-like instrument called a cannula is inserted through incisions to loosen excess fat. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe.

Depending on the area being treated, a CoolSculpting procedure takes about 45 - 90 minutes to complete. During this time you can read, work on your laptop or tablet, talk on the phone, or even take a nap. You can take advantage of a CoolScuplting procedure by having "you time." Most would agree that Liposuction is not as relaxing. With Liposuction (like most surgical procedures) anesthesia is used and after your 45 - 90 minute liposuction procedure, at least an additional 30 minutes is required of post-anesthesia observation. This means unlike a CoolSculpting procedure that can have you in and out in about an hour, Liposuction requires at least 2 hours at the medical facility.

After a CoolScuplting procedure, you may experience a little numbness in the treated area, but there is no downtime. This procedure allows you to return to your normal activities right after the procedure and can resume workouts in a day or two. Due to Liposuction being a surgical procedure, downtime is required and normal activities can be resumed within a few weeks after the procedure. Depending on the area being treated, pain will occur 2-4 days after surgery and a compression garment must be worn for a few weeks after Liposuction to allow the skin to tighten as the treated area heals.

In the weeks and months following a CoolSculpting procedure, the body naturally processes the treated fat, gradually tightens the skin, and eliminates the dead cells. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they are gone for good and more noticeable results of fat reduction can be seen around 2-4 months after the procedure, depending on the area treated. Unlike CoolSculpting, Liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat immediately leaving the skin loose, which does not allow the body to naturally tighten like CoolSculpting. Even though CoolSculpting and Liposuction both result in eliminating fat and contouring the body to a more attractive state, both results must be maintained. As long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained, the results will stay.

Both CoolSculpting and Liposuction are not "one size fits all" treatments.  This means treatment plans are truly unique to the individual and their goals. Because everyone does not have the same body type or the same goals, pricing can and will vary from client to client and an in-person consultation is required. The CoolSculpting procedure is very affordable compared to more invasive procedures like liposuction. At The Dermatology Center, we offer a number of financing options that provide low monthly payment plans to fit your budget.
