Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a proven way to improve the tone, texture, and overall appearance of the skin. PRP uses the body’s own platelets to stimulate natural rejuvenation.
The Dermatology Center offers PRP therapy together with SkinPen® microneedling technology. This safe and highly effective combination can have noticeable results for the appearance of enlarged pores, fine lines, acne scars, and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.
How Microneedling with PRP Works
The treatment involves the use of two separate procedures- microneedling and PRP- completed together.
The SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling tool. It uses sharp needles to create tiny holes in your skin. In response to these micro-injuries, your body produces collagen and elastin to heal the wound naturally. SkinPen doesn’t use chemicals, heat or toxins to burn or remove layers of your skin or paralyze your facial muscles.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
The second procedure is called PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). Platelet Rich Plasma is produced from an individual’s own blood. After a blood sample is obtained from a patient, the blood is put into a centrifuge, which is a tool that separates the PRP from the blood. The blood is spun for approximately 6 minutes.
PRP contains highly concentrated amounts of natural growth factors that promote the regeneration process of soft tissues. The PRP is applied directly to the channels that were created from the micro-needling to further stimulate the natural healing process and creation of collagen.
